Distribution Transformers We Manufacture

Oil-immersed and dry-type distribution transformers from 30 kVA upward, with the 450 kVA rating available in standard and project-specific configurations.

What Is a 450 kVA Transformer?

A 450 kVA transformer is a three-phase distribution transformer rated for 450 kilovolt-amperes of throughput, stepping a medium-voltage supply down to the low-voltage network that feeds factories, commercial buildings, residential areas and agricultural loads. It sits one step above the 400 kVA class and suits loads around 360 kW at a typical 0.8 power factor.

Ratings at this level are usually selected from the calculated peak demand plus margin. The transformer runs energised continuously, so the loss specification – especially no-load loss – is a significant part of its lifetime cost, and comparing guaranteed losses between suppliers matters more than the nameplate price.

  • 360 kW class at 0.8 pf – matches the real load this rating serves.
  • 11 / 20 / 33 kV primaries – with a 400V/230V secondary.
  • Oil or dry type – outdoor and indoor options.
  • In-house core & winding – controlled production and testing.
  • Tested per unit – loss and dielectric reports supplied.
  • OEM & wholesale – private labels and volume programmes.

Build Options

Choose the technology by installation site and fire rules:

Oil-immersed (ONAN)

the economical standard for outdoor pole, plinth and substation duty.

Dry-type (cast resin)

an oil-free 450 kVA unit for indoor and high-rise installations.

Custom ratios & tappings

built to match non-standard networks and voltage drops.

450 kVA Transformer Technical Data

Parameter Specification

Secondary voltage 400 V / 230 V

Standard IEC 60076 / GB 1094

450 kVA Loading and Full-Load Current

The real power available is the kVA rating multiplied by the power factor – about 360 kW at 0.8 and 450 kW at unity. Full-load current on the 400V secondary is 450,000 / (1.732 x 400), roughly 650 A per phase; on an 11kV primary it is about 23.6 A.

These figures set the LV cable, breaker and busbar sizes downstream. The feeder conductor is then selected for the current with margin for continuous loading and voltage drop over the run, and confirmed by the local code.

Indicative full-load figures

Secondary 400 V approx. 650 A per phase
Primary 11 kV approx. 23.6 A
Primary 33 kV approx. 7.9 A
Real load at 0.8 pf approx. 360 kW

Controlled Production From Core to Test

Core cutting, coil winding, vacuum drying and complete testing are performed in-house, so every 450 kVA unit is traceable from material to its test report.

400 kVA or 450 kVA – Which Rating Fits?

Standard preferred ratings near this level include 400 kVA and 500 kVA. The 450 kVA unit fits where the calculated load and growth fall between the two, or where the network operator’s list includes it. The decision should follow a load calculation, not guesswork.

If the load is close to 400 kVA but has motor-starting peaks, the 450 kVA rating gives useful headroom at moderate extra cost. Our engineers review the duty cycle and confirm the economical choice before you order.

Choosing a 450 kVA Transformer Supplier

Compare no-load and load losses, core material, winding conductor and the temperature-rise margin – these define efficiency and life. Check that the routine test report is issued per unit and that type-test evidence exists for the design.

Subian manufactures under ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, CE and UL certified systems and publishes its credentials openly, including a 110 kV transformer type-test report and an open-door factory policy with VR tour.

Confirm the supplier can adjust impedance, tappings and bushings for your project – a factory that engineers rather than resells can match the unit to your network.

Certifications & Quality Assurance

Our distribution transformer production runs under ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 systems with CE and UL certification and type-test evidence to 110 kV class.

FAQs

450 kVA Transformer Manufacturers & Suppliers FAQ

Questions buyers ask about the 450 kVA rating, loading and specification.

How many kW can a 450 kVA transformer supply?
At a typical 0.8 power factor it supplies about 360 kW continuously, rising to the full 450 kW at unity power factor. The kVA rating is the transformer’s apparent-power limit; the kW delivered depends on the load’s power factor.
What is the full-load current of a 450 kVA transformer?
At a 400V secondary, about 650 A per phase; on an 11kV primary about 23.6 A; on a 33kV primary about 7.9 A. The secondary current sets the LV breaker and cable ratings.
Is 450 kVA a standard transformer rating?
It is a common project rating in some regions, while others standardise on 400 kVA or 500 kVA. The availability depends on the market and the manufacturer; we build the 450 kVA rating as standard and can also confirm the closest economical rating for your load profile.
What is the difference between kVA and kW on this rating?
kVA is the apparent-power rating (voltage times current); kW is the real power delivered, which also depends on the power factor. A 450 kVA transformer passes 450 kVA continuously and delivers kW equal to 450 multiplied by the load power factor.
How do I replace an old 450 kVA transformer?
Use the old nameplate data – ratio, vector group, impedance and tapping range – and the outline drawing if available. We build the replacement to match the existing protection settings and installation footprint.
